Dion Diamond's Story

Dion Diamond was born on July 2, 1941. He started protesting when he was 15, in Petersville, Virginia. Dion protested because he felt that black people should be treated equally. He protested in many different places such as lunch counters, schools, colleges and stores. Even though he was risking his life, he still did whatever he could do to make things better. When the police came, he would run out the back door. Dion Diamond is an unsung hero because he was courageous and brave. Dion Diamond protested in the 1960's during a controversial time in U.S. history. When asked his opinion of heroes, Dion said, "Only people who suffer are heroes." Even though he doesn't consider himself a hero he is one. He risked his life for what he believed in, and that is very inspiring. He was also very persistent and resilient. 60 years later, Dion Diamond is still participating in speeches and community gatherings all over the country. Dion Diamond has an amazing story full of accomplishments.
